Tax experts gather in Málaga as the 2024 Taxand Global Conference draws to a close

From 19–21 June 2024, an important forum on frontier tax topics and policy took place at the NH Málaga conference centre in southern Spain. Hosted by Taxand Global, the conference drew more than 200 delegates — Taxand tax experts from around the world, corporate representatives and academics — making it one of the year's key venues for cross-jurisdictional exchange.

In his opening address, Taxand Global Chairman Frederic Donnedieu de Vabres set the tone: tax practice everywhere is being reshaped by new technology and new policy. He called on delegates to share their insights so that, together, they can contribute to the modernisation of tax administration and service to clients.

The programme covered digital tax administration, tax-policy reform and cross-border tax compliance. Delegates debated how to respond to a changing global economic landscape, how to push forward the digitalisation of tax, and how to deepen international cooperation — sharing practical innovations and lessons learned along the way.

A highlight was the keynote from Achim Pross, Deputy Director at the OECD's Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, on the design and future direction of BEPS Pillar 1. The session drew strong interest and broad endorsement of the goal — a fairer and more precisely-targeted international tax environment.

The conference closed on 21 June with an address from Toni Nadal, the legendary tennis coach and uncle-mentor of Rafael Nadal for 27 years. Drawing on themes of mental preparation, simplicity, self-demand, respect, self-development, compromise and resilience in the face of challenge, his talk offered a distinctive lens on translating rigorous thinking into practical results.

The Taxand Global Conference deepened delegates' understanding of the latest tax rules and technology across jurisdictions, and reinforced collaboration within and beyond the tax profession. Taxand will continue to convene such gatherings annually as part of its commitment to supporting the modernisation of tax practice worldwide.
